Innovation in Education

Innovation allows for the world to continue to evolve and adapt to what’s happening around us. In education, innovation is key to allow students to have success in their education, where educators learn to grow and change to support the needs of their students and peers.

I think what stood out to me the most was how creative students can get with their designs and it looks like there isn’t a lot of limitations with these technologies, in regard to their creativity. As well as how much fun I had in such a short amount of time there, and I can just imagine how engaged the students would be if once a week they were able to use this technology.

Activities

  • Circut Machine: I didn’t get to use this in class, but at home we have one and I love using it to make decals/stickers. I have even made a mug design using this
  • Button Maker: Didn’t get to use it but super cool to see how such a simple design and resources can make a button
  • Chompsaw: Love how safe this is for students to use!
  • Microbit AI: Got to play around with this one and I love how it incorporates movement with technology. This could be a great ‘brain break’ for students

Future Practices

I imagine that using this space would be super fun but could also be hectic and stressful, since the students are excited to learn and be hands on with their learning which could lead to distractions during instruction/teaching. Also keeping into consideration how many students you have, how big the space is, limited supplies, limited equipment, time/booking constraints, cost, etc. In a perfect world, I feel that utilizing a space like this once a week would be beneficial for any type of project that the students are working on. To add, if there’s a day that the students can’t go outside for a quick stretch to move their bodies, the teachers can create a mini project using this equipment that allows the students to move around, collaborate, and create something while using their creative and critical thinking skills. An example could be creating a solar system and 3D printing the planets (one planet a week?), or creating an art piece using the circut machine and the students can represent who they are with a picture they created. This could be an ‘About Me’ project.
